Top 5 Social Media Tips You Should Know About!

ID-10049738Social media according to comScore, an internet business analyst firm, Americans spend approximately 14% of their time on social media/networking sites, pretty amazing figures right!

The majority of business owners whether on the internet or not now use social media to expand and promote them to the top. It is essential that you understand how to effectively use social media to help avoid wasting your time posting on your Facebook page, and sending out tweets when no one really has any interest in reading them.

So here are the Top 5 social media tips to get you started!

NUMBERS ARE NOT EVERYTHING

Having thousands of friends or followers does not necessarily translate into people who actually view your site or sales. Even if you are not promoting a business and you have thousands of friends/followers, it does not mean that you are going to have a lot of social interaction with these people, especially if you do not share anything in common.

Spending copious amounts of time looking for friends/followers to show off how many you have, when they have no interest in you or your business is a waste of time.

STICK WITH THE FREE AND SIMPLE SERVICES

You can achieve just as much in terms of promotion with a service that is free than with one you have to pay for. Most of the popular social media sites are free anyway so why waste money elsewhere?

If you are new to the world of social media you should start with simple sites such as twitter and Facebook which both have the biggest user bases for you to get involved in.

LIMIT YOUR EFFORTS

You don’t need to have a profile on every single social networking site in existence. Stick to a handful of the best sites, mainly the ones you enjoy and link them all together. For example, you can have your twitter page link to your blog and Facebook page, it’s kind of like back linking and can help increase traffic.

BE MORE SOCIABLE

Instead of directly selling your products or services and looking like a spammer, engage with your followers in conversation and warm them up gradually.

Social media takes a different approach than other web based tools such as email marketing. You have to sell yourself as well as your business.

BE HONEST

Refrain from writing fake positive reviews to gain popularity and attention, many social media users will see through this and it can harm your reputation including your website which is dangerous.

To sum up follow these 5 social media tips if you want positive publicity for your business to make it a success online.

Hi Stuart, great website 🙂 I agree with you about these social media tips. I am just starting out in the internet marketing arena, and I started by publishing an ebook via amazon. I promote it using Twitter and Facebook, and this seems to be working well. I sell about 200 books a month and the marketing is free, quick and simple. I shall certainly be sticking with this as I move forward.
    Thanks
    Vic 🙂
